Moti Special is a multinational synth-pop band that was formed in Hamburg in 1981. The founding members are Manfred âTissyâ Thiers (vocalist/bassist), Michael Cretu (keyboardist), Reinhard âDickyâ Tarrach (drummer), and the Dane Nils Tuxen (guitarist). The name comes from a spicy Indian dish that singer Manfred âTissyâ Thiers ate at a London restaurant. Although the band was formed in 1981, commercial success didnât come until the mid-1980s. Their biggest hits are the songs âCold Days, Hot Nightsâ and âDonât Be So Shy,â both of which became Top 10 hits in Germany in 1985. To coincide with this, their debut album Motivation was released in 1985. It was produced at Data Alpha Studios in Munich and reached No. 20 on the German album charts and No. 11 on the Swiss album charts. The producers were Michael Cretu and Armand Volker. In 1989, a second album, Dancing for Victory, was released. Dicky Tarrach and Nils Tuxen collaborated on this album with the new bassist Anders Mossberg and the new singer/keyboardist Frank Ã
dahl. However, commercial success eluded them. Michael Cretu and Manfred âTissyâ Thiers later founded the project Cretu & Thiers and have not performed under the name Moti Special since.
