Born in Bittburg on March 12, 1991, Congolese-born rapper Lefaza Klinsmann Jovete, better known as Mortel, grew up on a military base and developed an affinity with Paris, where he regularly visited with his friends. After a turbulent adolescence, he joined various rap groups and specialized in graffiti. In 2016, he recorded the mixtape Wesh, followed a year later by another called Racaille, which reached No. 26 on the German sales chart. Founder of the Racaille Music Group label, he is sponsored by French rapper Booba's sportswear brand and supported by Fler, with whom he occasionally collaborates. In 2017, the track "Racaille Gang" benefited from a video shot by Chris Macari. The following year saw the release of his debut studio album Arrivé, which reached No. 38. A year later, the track "Zu Echt " is his first charted song in Germany, at #49. Mortel followed this up with the EP Hart auf Hart (2020) and the album Chapeau (2022), before the 2025 release of Tayo, featuring numerous guests including Azad and Dù Maroc, Maxwell and Alberto, Haze, Ramo and Beka, LX, O.G., Milonair, EAZ and Buds, Nativ and Bobbyezz, Ynd Soulja and Black061.
