Jill Heather Scott was born on 4 April 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and emerged as a singer, songwriter, poet and actress. Jill Scott’s debut studio album, Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1 (2000), went platinum and produced the single "A Long Walk", which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed with Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 (2004) and The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3 (2007), both achieving gold status; the single "Hate on Me" reached the Top 40 on R&B charts. After a legal dispute with Hidden Beach, she released The Light of the Sun (2011) under her own imprint, Blues Babe Records, debuting at Number 1 on the Billboard 200; the single "So in Love" peaked at number 10 on the R&B/Hip‑Hop Songs chart.
