Biography

A strutting, funky girl group who grooved along to the UK garage dance scene, the Mis-teeq girls became early 2000s urban pop starlets, billed as Britain's answer to Destiny's Child. Led by Alesha Dixon's growling, dance hall raps and Sabrina Washington's sweet harmonies, the garage remix of debut single Why? put the trio on the map, becoming a huge underground club hit before reaching Number 8 in the charts. Follow-up singles All I Want, One Night Stand and B With Me made the top five as debut album Lickin' On Both Sides (2001) shot to Number 3. The group performed at the 2002 BRIT Awards and won a MOBO Award for Best Garage Act before returning with the huge Number 2 hit Scandalous and second album Eye Candy (2003); but after an unsuccessful tour of the US and the collapse of their label Telstar, the band split in 2005. Dixon pursued a solo career, scoring Top 10 hits with Breathe Slow and The Boy Does Nothing and found fame on BBC1 show Strictly Come Dancing - firstly as a contestant and then as judge - although rumours constantly persist of a reunion.
