Misaki Umei, born in 2002 in Hyogo Prefecture, is a Japanese pianist, composer, and genre-blending musician. She began playing piano at age four, added electone and composition by six, and went on to win prizes in numerous national competitions. A graduate of Tokyo College of Musicâs composition department, she first gained recognition as leader of the Misaki Umei Trio, releasing an album in 2021 and performing at COTTON CLUB. By 2023 she had also launched her solo project, expanding her scope from jazz into electronic and experimental music. She has collaborated with leading figures across genres, including Hiromi Uehara, Kendrick Scott, Masaki Hayashi, Takashi Niigaki, Eiko Ishibashi, Haruka Aina, Yoshizawa Kayoko, and Oozora Kimishima. In February 2025, she was selected to join Black Midiâs Geordie Greep on his Japan tour, and in April appeared at percussionist Shun Ishiwakaâs recital. That same year, *Rolling Stone Japan* named her among its âFuture of Musicâ 25 artists shaping Japanâs next generation. Alongside her solo work, she also performs in the units haruyoi with Saka Kanno and °pbdb with Fuki Kitamura. In June 2025, She released the single "TEAR.:*", followed by her first solo album *Asleep Above Creatures* on July 30.
