Biography

Milt Brent Buckner, born July 10, 1915, in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American jazz pianist and organist. After his parents' death when he was nine, Buckner moved to Detroit and began studying piano. In the 1940s, he played with McKinney's Cotton Pickers and Cab Calloway before joining Lionel Hampton’s big band in 1941. Buckner formed his own trio in 1952 and pioneered the use of the electric Hammond organ. His notable albums include Play Chords (1966), Milt and Hal (1968), and More Chords (1969). He often performed in Europe in the late 1960s, with his last studio session taking place in Paris on July 4, 1977. Buckner died of a heart attack in Chicago on July 27, 1977.
