Mike Mareen was born on November 9, 1949, in Berlin. His real name is Uwe-Michael Wischhoff. He is a German singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. His musical style lies at the intersection of Italo disco, Euro disco, Hi-NRG, and electronic pop music. He gained his first experience as the drummer for the band Cemetery Institution. With this group, he performed at venues including the legendary Star-Club in Hamburg. Later, he worked as a sailor and lived in New York for several years. There, he played in various bands before returning to Germany. After his return, he took acting and piano lessons and launched his solo career . In 1974, Mike Mareen released the single âFür dich fang ich heutâ ein neues Leben an.â More German-language tracks followed. In 1976, âMama Leoneâ was released, which he co-wrote with Drafi Deutscher. In Binoâs version, the song later became an international hit. In 1982, Mike Mareen founded the label Night ânâ Day Records. His breakthrough came in 1985 with âDancing in the Dark.â The track reached high positions on dance charts in numerous countries. His biggest hit followed in 1986 with âLove Spy.â The single reached No. 16 on the German singles charts and sold millions of copies worldwide. In early 1987, the follow-up single âAgent of Libertyâ climbed to No. 27 in Germany. His most important albums include Mike Mareen 70âs (1979), Dance Control (1985), Love Spy and Love Spy Remix (1986), Letâs Start Now (1987), Synthesizer Control (1988), TV Talk 2000 (2000), and Darkness and Light (2004).
