Martine Johnson, known professionally as Mia Martina, was born on January 14, 1984, in Saint-Ignace, New Brunswick, Canada. She began her music career while studying at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Her breakthrough came with the cover of "Stereo Love" by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina, which reached number 10 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 in November 2010 and earned a platinum certification. This success was followed by the release of her debut album Devotion on August 29, 2011. Notable singles from this period include "Latin Moon" and "Burning", for which she received a SOCAN Award in 2014. Her second album, Mia Martina, was released on October 14, 2014. That year, she also had her bigger crossover hit with âBeastâ alongside Waka Flocka Flame, a Top 40 Canadian hit that went Platinum in Canada, and she performed the track on the MuchMusic Video Awards stage. After a few years of silence, she returned with âSooner or Laterâ featuring Kent Jones in 2017, released the independent album Daydream (2019) with tracks including âDJ Saved My Lifeâ featuring Breikthru and âWestsideâ featuring Megz, then continued with scattered singles through the early 2020s, including âWhat I Wantâ (2020), âWithout Youâ (2021), and later releases such as âHave Yourself a Merry Little Christmasâ (2023) and âLike a Drumâ (2025).
