Biography

David Adedeji Adeleke was born on November 21, 1992, in Atlanta, United States. However, the future Nigerian artist, known by his stage name Davido, was raised in Lagos. It wasn’t until he was 16 that he returned to the United States to pursue a degree in business administration in Alabama. During this time, he developed a passion for music and began recording instrumentals. After a stint in London dedicated to music, he returned to Nigeria and resumed his studies, this time in music. In 2011, he released his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo, produced by Spellz, Shizzi, Maleek Berry, and others, which blends Afrobeats and rap. The album spawned the singles “Back When” and “Dami Durro.” In 2013, he released a series of independent tracks: “Gobe”, “One of a Kind,” “Skelewu” , and “Aye.” Two years later, he returned with the album The Baddest. Numerous artists have collaborated with him, including P-Square, Akon, Uhuru, Wale, and Trey Songz. In 2016, he released a five-track EP, Son Mercy , and kept his fans engaged in the years leading up to his next album with tracks like “Fall” in 2017 and “Assurance ” in 2018, which would be included on the album *A Good Time* in 2019. This album also features collaborations such as “Blow My Mind” with Chris Brown and “D & G” with Summer Walker. Without delay, he released A Better Time —which features the duet with Nicki Minaj, “Holy Ground” —the very next year, before taking a three-year hiatus to complete Timeless in 2023. This fourth album, which explores a wide range of styles—from ragga to afropop to dancehall—features numerous guest appearances, including Skepta, Angelique Kidjo, and The Cavemen. Rapper Focalistic appears on the single “Champion Sound.” The album peaked at No. 10 in the UK and No. 37 in the U.S. After collaborating with Latto on “Unavailable”, Davido teamed up with Chris Brown on “Sensational” (featuring Lojay), followed by “Titanium”, included on the album 5ive (2025), which features a host of guest artists including YG Marley, Shenseea, 450, Victony, Musa Keys, Becky G, Omah Lay, Odumodublvck, Chike, and the French artists Tayc and Dadju. Shortly thereafter, Davido promoted 5ive on the international 5ive Alive Tour, while “With You,” recorded with Omah Lay, earned him another Grammy Award nomination in 2026. He was also inducted into the 2026 class of the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta. On July 31, he celebrated his 15-year career with Oriadé, his sixth album—a 13-track project preceded by “I Know Who I Be” featuring JAZZWRLD and GL_Ceejay and “Gimme Dat Ting” featuring NO11. The album also features Leon Thomas, Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Mayorkun, Fola, and Llona.
