Biography

Maykel Blanco y Su Salsa Mayor is one of Cuba’s leading salsa and timba orchestras, founded in 2004 by pianist, percussionist, and composer Maykel Blanco. With a deep-rooted passion for Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary influences, the group quickly established itself as a force in the timba scene, blending high-energy arrangements with infectious melodies. Their breakthrough came with the release of Recoge y Vete (2006), followed by Anda y Pégate (2008), solidifying their status as one of the most exciting new Cuban bands of the time. Over the years, they have collaborated with major figures in Latin music, including Alexander Abreu and Los Van Van, and have toured extensively across Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. Albums like A Toda Máquina (2010) and Que No Me Quiten la Fe (2016) continued to showcase their evolving sound, combining traditional Cuban elements with modern timba and salsa grooves. With hits like "Bembe," "Que Tiene Que Te Mueve," and "El Artista," Maykel Blanco y Su Salsa Mayor remains at the forefront of contemporary Cuban music, captivating audiences with their dynamic live performances and innovative approach to salsa.
