Biography

Mauro Picotto was born on December 25, 1966 in Cavour near Turin. He is an Italian DJ and producer who is considered a formative figure in the European trance and techno scene of the 1990s and 2000s. From the early 1990s, Mauro Picotto worked as a DJ in northern Italy and became part of the Cappella project, which achieved international dance success. In 1998, he launched his solo career and shaped the sound of major raves and festivals in Europe with his driving trance productions. His international breakthrough came in 1999 with the single "Lizard (Gonna Get You)" (1999), which reached number 1 in the British dance charts and placed in the top 20 in several European countries. This is followed in the same year by "Iguana" (1999), which climbs to number 12 in the UK singles charts. 2000 sees the release of the debut album The Album (2000), which reaches the top 20 in the UK. Other successful singles are "Komodo (Save a Soul)" (2000), which reaches number 13 in the UK, and "Proximus (Medley with Adiemus)" (2001), which also reaches the British charts. In 2007, Mauro Picotto released the album Now & Then (2007), which documented his stylistic shift from melodic trance to harder techno.
