Biography

Michael King, Jr., later known as Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a songwriter and pastor who became a prominent figure in the American civil rights movement. His early background included studying sociology at Morehouse College and theology at Crozer Theological Seminary and Boston University. Martin Luther King's involvement in music began with his role as a songwriter, contributing to albums that captured his speeches and activism. His first notable album was At Zion Hill, released in 1962. This was followed by The Great March To Freedom in 1963, which documented key moments of the civil rights movement. In 1968, he released several significant albums, including "Free At Last" and Remaining Awake Through A Great Revolution, both capturing his powerful oratory and advocacy for social justice. Martin Luther King's career was marked by numerous achievements, including becoming the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 at age 35. His influence extended beyond his lifetime, with Martin Luther King Day established as a federal holiday in the United States starting in 1986. Martin Luther King's assassination on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, marked the end of his life but not his legacy, which continues to inspire movements for civil rights and social justice worldwide.
