Biography

Marshall McGuire, born in 1965 in Melbourne, Australia, is a harpist known for his contributions to classical music. His interest in the harp began after seeing Harpo Marx play the instrument in A Night at the Opera. McGuire studied under Huw Jones of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and later at the Victorian College of the Arts, Paris with Marie-Claire Jamet, and the Royal College of Music, London with Rachel Masters. From 1988 to 1992, he served as principal harpist with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. McGuire has commissioned over 100 new works for harp, earning the 1997 Sounds Australian Award for his contributions to Australian music. He has performed with various orchestras including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Australia Ensemble. McGuire's recordings include collaborations with artists such as Riley Lee and Patricia Pollett.
