Biography

The short-lived British pop-rock duo Marshall Hain consisted of Julian Marshall (keyboards) and Kit Hain (vocals, bass). They met as children at Dartington Hall School and extended their friendship by forming a duo that met with immediate success. Signed to the Harvest label, they scored their biggest international hit with their first original single, "Dancing in the City", which reached #3 in the UK and Australia in December 1978, and #43 on the US Billboard Hot 100 early the following year. The gold-selling, chart-topping song was followed by the ballad "Coming Home" (#39 in the UK). The duo produced just one album, Free Ride, released in the U.S. under the title Dancing in the City. After their separation in 1979, Julian Marshall continued with The Flying Lizards, then formed the duo Eye to Eye with Deborah Berg, before devoting himself to choral composition and music teaching. For his part, Kit Hain embarked on a solo career, writing for artists such as Roger Daltrey, Kiki Dee, Barbara Dickson, Fleetwood Mac, Cher and Cyndi Lauper.
