Biography

Marlene Paula VerPlanck, born Marlene Pampinella on November 11, 1933, in Newark, New Jersey, was an American singer. She began her career as a vocalist at age 19 and released her debut album I Think of You with Every Breath I Take in 1956. VerPlanck worked extensively as a studio vocalist for commercial jingles during the 1960s and 1970s, earning the nickname "the New York jingle queen." She also sang backup for artists such as Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, and Mel Torme. Her solo career began in earnest with the release of This Happy Feeling in 1969, followed by more than 20 albums, mostly on the Audiophile label. VerPlanck last performed in December 2017 and passed away from pancreatic cancer on January 14, 2018.
