Biography
The French-speaking Belgian singer Marka was born Serge Van Laeken on 27 May 1961 in Boitsfort, Brussels and grew up in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Mettewie. He cut his teeth in the group Allez Allez whose 1981 African Queen EP and subsequent performance at the Torhout-Werchter festival in 1982 put them on the map. Marka parted ways with Allez Allez in 1982 and kicked off his solo career with the 1992 album Je Vous Dis Tout, which paved the way for a contract with Columbia France three years later. Subesquent albums included Merci d'Avance (1996), L'Idiomatic (1997) L'Etat c'est Moi (2003), Made in Liège (2010) and Fininé Bonsoir (2021). 2023 saw the release of the album Voodoo Belge.
