Biography

María Jiménez Gallego, born February 3, 1950, in Triana, Séville, Spain, was a singer known for her contributions to Latin and World music. At fifteen, she moved to Barcelona to work as a cleaner. Her career began in Madrid's tablaos under La Pipa's mentorship during the early post-Franco era. In 1976, Jiménez released her debut album featuring rumbas, tangos, and boleros with arrangements by Paco Cepero. She followed this with albums like Sensación (1980). Her career saw a resurgence in 2001 through collaborations such as "La Lista de la compra" with La Cabra mecánica and the album Donde más duele, featuring songs by Joaquín Sabina. Jiménez received notable awards, including the Radiolé Prize (2018), Andalucía Excelente Award (2021). She also appeared in films like Manuela (1975) and presented television programs such as Bienaventurados on Canal Sur. María Jiménez Gallego passed away on September 7, 2023, in Séville.
