Maria BobbittâChertock, known professionally as Maria BC, was born on 12 March 1994 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Trained as a mezzoâsoprano under the guidance of a father who played church music, Maria BC began writing and recording in her teens. The debut EP Devil's Rain (2021) introduced the artistâs ambient folk aesthetic, with the title track earning praise from Pitchfork. In 2022, the album Hyaline was released on Father/Daughter Records, later highlighted by Pitchfork and Stereogum; a remix collection followed in November 2022. Maria BC performed at South by Southwest that year, then signed with Sacred Bones Records in 2023, announcing the second album Spike Field and singles "Amber" and "Watcher". Collaborations include features with Rachika Nayar, and a touring role with her. The album Marathon was released on 27 February 2026.
