The Marvelows were an American soul group from Chicago formed in 1959. The band consisted of Melvin Mason, Frank Paden, Johnny Paden, Willie Stephenson, Jesse Smith, James Ray, Clark Turner, and Alvin Luckett. Their debut recording, the single âI Doâ (1965), reached number 7 on the R&B Singles chart and number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group rebranded as The Mighty Marvelows and released the single âIn the Morningâ (1968), which reached number 24 on the R&B chart. Their recordings include the album The Mighty Marvelows (1968) and the single âHey Hey Babyâ (1965). Jesse Smith was replaced by Andrew Thomas in 1966. The ensemble became inactive in 1969 and performed a brief reunion in 1974. The song âI Doâ was later covered by The J. Geils Band in 1977.
