Biography

Mao Uesugi is a Japanese singer from Osaka, born on December 21, 1992. She is affiliated with High Six and is one of the third-generation vocalists of fripSide. Her music career began in 2012 when she won the "LisAni! AUDITION feat. fripSide" competition, where she was selected among 327 applicants. She debuted as a member of the female vocal unit "spoon" under the stage name MAO, produced by Satoshi Yaginuma. The group released their first single, "Silverlight", but ceased activities shortly after. She continued working with Yaginuma, providing demo vocals for fripSide while performing in the doujin music scene and at anime music events. In April 2022, she was announced as one of the new vocalists of fripSide, alongside Hisayo Abe. Expanding her solo career, she made her solo debut in January 2025 with "Zero Ignition", the opening theme for the TV anime Grisaia: Phantom Trigger.
