Maki Nomiya (éå®® çè²´), born 12 March 1960 in Japan, is a Japanese pop singer who began her career in the early 1980s. After releasing her debut solo album Pink no Kokoro in 1981, she joined the newâwave band Portable Rock as lead vocalist, gaining visibility in the Japanese music scene. In 1991 she became the frontwoman of the influential Shibuyaâkei group Pizzicato Five, contributing to the bandâs international reach until its disbandment in 2001. Following the groupâs split, Maki Nomiya pursued a solo trajectory, issuing a series of albums such as Miss Maki Nomiya Sings (2000), Lady Miss Warp (2002), Dress Code (2004), and Party People (2005). She collaborated with artists including MâFlo on the EP Maki Nomiya Loves MâFlo (2005) and Fernanda Takai on MakiâTakai No Jetlag (2009). Her later works continued the Shibuyaâkei aesthetic with titles like Miss Maki Nomiya Sings Shibuyaâkei Standards (2014) and New Beautiful (2022). Throughout her career, Maki Nomiya has maintained a steady presence in Japanâs pop landscape, with her recordings regularly charting and her influence recognized in retrospectives of the Shibuyaâkei movement.
