Magic Pie are a Norwegian neo-progressive rock band known for their intricate compositions, melodic depth, and dynamic live performances. Drawing on influences from classic progressive rock acts like Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd, as well as incorporating elements of modern rock, the band has become one of the key figures in Norwayâs progressive rock scene. Magic Pie formed in 2001 in the coastal town of Moss, Norway and currently consists of members Kim Stenberg (lead vocals, guitar), EirÃkur Hauksson (keyboards, piano), Lars Petter Holstad (bass guitar, vocals), Ã
ge W. L. Hansen (drums, percussion), and Hans-Olav Kjelstad (guitar). Originally conceived as a project to explore the band members' shared love for progressive rock, the group quickly found its identity in creating lush, expansive musical pieces that combined traditional prog rock elements with their unique take on contemporary rock sounds. The band's name, Magic Pie, was chosen to reflect the imaginative and fantastical quality of their music. They signed to Swedish label Progress Records in 2005 and released their debut album, Motions of Desire, that same year. The band's 2011 album, The Suffering Joy, was a milestone in their career, featuring a more polished, mature sound while maintaining the complex musicality for which they are known. The band continue to write, record, and perform, with the Maestro album surfacing in 2025.
