Maggie Margaret Estep, born on March 20,â¯1964 in Summit, Newâ¯Jersey, was an American singer, writer and spokenâword poet. After leaving formal studies, she entered Newâ¯Yorkâs underground scene, performing with the group Iâ¯Loveâ¯Everybody and later collaborating with Recoil. Her debut single "Hey Baby" appeared in 1994, leading to a contract with NuYo/Imago and the release of the album Love is a Dog From Hell in 1997. She also notably toured with Hole and appeared on Lollapalooza, MTVâs Spoken Word Unplugged and HBOâs Def Poetry Jam. Maggie Margaret Estep died of complications following a heart attack on Februaryâ¯12, 2014 in Albany, Newâ¯York.
