William Dermot Colleran, known professionally as Mac Martin, born on April 26, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was an American bluegrass musician. As a young man, he developed an interest in "hillbilly music" and began playing guitar at the age of fifteen. He started his musical career performing with Ed Brozi before forming the Pike County Boys in the late 1940s. The group played regularly on WHJB in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where Colleran adopted the stage name Mac Martin to avoid confusion with the other Bills in the band. In 1957, he formed the Dixie Travelers, which became a staple at Walsh's Lounge in Pittsburgh until 1976. The group recorded for Gateway Records and Rural Rhythm Records. He released several albums, including Travelin' On (1978) and Venango (2005). He passed away on February 28, 2022, at the age of 96 in McMurray, Pennsylvania.
