Biography

Lynne Arriale, born Lynne on May 29, 1957, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is an American pianist and educator. She received classical training at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music before transitioning to jazz under the influence of Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock. In 1993, Arriale won the International Great American Jazz Piano Competition, securing a record deal with DMP Records. Her breakthrough came in the early 1990s with her trio featuring bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Steve Davis. Notable performances include appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1999. In 2009, Arriale released Nuance, featuring compositions by Sting, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Tommy Wolf. She is a professor of jazz piano at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
