Lunatic Calm, a British electronic music group formed in 1996, consisted of Simonâ¯âsHackââ¯Shackleton and Howardâ¯âHowieââ¯Saunders. The duo, longâtime collaborators who had previously performed with Thomâ¯Yorke in projects such as Headless Chickens, launched their career with the 1997 single "Roll the Dice", which garnered attention on the UK club circuit. In Septemberâ¯1997 they released their debut album Metropol on MCA Records, a collection that blended bigâbeat rhythms with industrial textures and earned comparisons to Theâ¯Prodigy; the title track "Leave You Far Behind" became a staple, featuring on soundtracks for Theâ¯Matrix, Charlieâs Angels, and Mortalâ¯Kombat: Annihilation. In 2002 Lunatic Calm issued Breakingâ¯Point through Cityâ¯ofâ¯Angels, but the labelâs collapse and lack of promotion curtailed the release, leading to the groupâs dissolution in 2003. Postâbreakup, Shackleton pursued a solo career as Eliteâ¯Force and later released a selfâtitled album in 2016, while Saunders joined the production partnership DoubleDose and directed AudioFuel. Despite a brief tenure, Lunatic Calmâs tracks continued to appear in video games and film trailers, cementing their influence within electronic and rockâinfluenced soundtracks.
