Biography
Ludwig Wicki, born in 1960 in Hellbühl, Switzerland, is a Swiss composer, trombonist, and conductor known for his work in classical and film music. He studied trombone with Rolf Bodendorfer and Branimir Slokar, as well as conducting with Martin Flämig, Ewald Körner, and Donato Renzetti. From 1980 to 1989, he was a trombonist with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and later became a professor at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the Bern University of the Arts. Wicki founded and has served as artistic director of the 21st Century Orchestra, specializing in live film music performances. He conducted the first complete live performance of the score of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as part of the Live to Projection project in 2008 and has collaborated with composers including Howard Shore and Randy Newman.
