Biography

Lucien Boyer, born Lucien Jean Boyer on January 20, 1876, in Leognan, Gironde, France, was a poet, composer, songwriter, and goguettier. He moved to Paris in 1896 and became a regular at the cabaret des Quat'z'Arts, where he performed "Le Jeune Homme qui a un nid de serpents dans le ventre" on stage. In 1902, Boyer embarked on a three-year world tour with Numa Blès, composing "Lettre à Nini", which became a hit for Esther Lekain. During World War I, Boyer served as a "songwriter for the armies", earning the Legion of Honour in 1920. He wrote songs for notable artists such as Mistinguett and Chevalier. Boyer passed away on June 16, 1942, in Paris.
