Biography
James Dear, born 2 August 2002 in Los Angeles, California, was a Newâ¯Zealandâbased producer and rapper known professionally as Luci4. After acquiring a laptop as a child, Dear began producing drill beats and adopted the moniker 4jay in 2016, gaining early attention when a beat he posted was used by TayâK for "Gotta Blast". He later joined the collective BMB Deathrow and founded Jewelxxet. In 2021 he released the single "BodyPartz", which achieved RIAA gold certification on 24â¯Januaryâ¯2024, and followed with "BodyPartz / Kurxxed Emeraldz (Edits)" in 2023. Luci4âs singles "Dead n Gone" (2â¯Februaryâ¯2023) and "Hey" (17â¯Marchâ¯2023) received widespread streaming play. He signed with Atlantic Records in 2021 and released numerous mixtapes and albums, including ##R2D (2022) and VampMania 3 (2024). On 22 February 2026, Luci4 was found dead at a friend's home in Los Angeles at age 23.
