L'Trimm, an American hip-hop duo composed of Bunny D and Lady Tigra, originated from Coconut Grove, Florida. The group adopted their name from a popular designer brand of blue jeans, adding the L' prefix to give it a French feel. Their breakthrough came with the local hit "Grab It", which led to the release of their debut album Grab It! in 1988 on Atlantic Records. This album was certified Gold by the RIAA and included notable tracks such as "Cars With The Boom", which reached Number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100, leading to a national tour. Atlantic Records signed L'Trimm for their second album Drop That Bottom in 1989. However, creative differences and a shift in musical direction led to the group's disbandment after the release of their third album Groovy in 1991. The album had more of a house and new jack swing sound. After disbanding, Lady Tigra moved to New York City and managed nightclubs before releasing her first solo project Please Mr. Boombox in 2008, which featured a guest track by MC Lyte. In 2016, Lady Tigra appeared in the American documentary film 808. In 2020, "Cars With The Boom" gained renewed interest due to TikTok, leading to the release of the compilation album Cars That Go Boom.
