Biography

Los Relámpagos are a Spanish rock ensemble from Madrid formed in 1961. The group was established by the musicians Pablo Herrero, José Luis Armenteros, Ricardo López Fuster, Ignacio Sánchez Campins, and Juan José Sánchez Campins and was initially known as Dick y los Relámpagos. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style that modernized traditional Spanish melodies and classical compositions by performers including Albéniz, Turina, and Granados with electric instruments. Their recording career began with the debut extended play Explosivo! (1962). They achieved professional recognition for the tracks "Nit de llampecs" (1965) and "La danza del fuego" (1966). Their discography includes the studio recordings Páginas musicales de la historia de España (1969) and Piel de toro (1971), the latter featuring the track "Aires asturianos" (1971). The ensemble became inactive in 1974 but resumed activity in 1987 for a performance on the television program Qué noche la de aquel año. They released the studio recording Ayer, hoy y siempre (2001). The ensemble includes the guitarist José Antonio Soler.
