Biography

Los Mentados de Culiacán are a Regional Mexican/norteño group from Culiacán, Sinaloa, founded in 2017 by accordionist Paul Noriega with the aim of preserving the traditional Sinaloan norteño style while adapting it for modern audiences. After several years of performing in local circuits, the group began releasing music independently and built a reputation with their strong live performances. Their first long-form presence came with the live set Desde el Rancho, Vol. 1 in 2022, establishing a repertoire that mixed corridos and romantic cuts. They followed in 2023 with the studio projects Escribiendo la Historia and Firme con la Sombreriza, supported by tracks such as “Nomas Pa’ Que Sepan,” “El Terre,” “Muchacho de Campo,” and “Gente del 04,” which helped expand their recognition. In 2024 they gained further traction with Con Tonada Sinaloense, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (En Vivo), alongside the studio album El Viaje de Mi Vida, whose title track became their calling card and was later reissued in a collaborative version with Enigma Norteño. The group also appeared on singles by La Demanda (“Hay Serafín Para Rato”) and Grupo Asociado (“No Eh De Detenerme”), broadening their presence within the Regional Mexican scene. By 2025 they accelerated their release schedule with EPs like Corazón de Roca, Vol. 1 and Al Son de Mi Rancho (En Vivo), as well as singles including “Lágrimas de Sangre,” “Increíble,” “Nocturno a Rosario,” “VYDV,” and “De Principio a Fin,” balancing studio polish with the energy of their live sound while carrying forward the vision of founder Paul Noriega.
