Lori Lieberman, born November 15, 1951 in Los Angeles, is an American singer-songwriter who accompanies herself on guitar and piano. She began singing and composing at a young age. In her late teens, Lieberman was signed to Capitol Records through a deal with songwriters Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. Her first album, Lori Lieberman, was released in 1972. She co-wrote "Killing Me Softly With His Song", which became an international hit for Roberta Flack in 1973 but did not receive credit or royalties at the time. Lieberman's subsequent albums with Capitol Records include Becoming (1973), A Piece of Time (1974), and Straw Colored Girl (1975). After leaving Capitol, she released Letting Go in 1978 through Millennium Records. Lieberman took a hiatus from music but returned in the mid-1990s with albums like A Thousand Dreams (1994) and Home of Whispers (1996).
