Biography

Elisabetha Nina Mary Frederica Lehmann was an English soprano and composer born on July 11, 1862. She studied singing with Alberto Randegger and Jenny Lind, making her debut at St James's Hall in London on November 23, 1885. After performing extensively in England for nearly a decade, Lehmann retired from the stage in 1894 to focus on composition. Among her best-known works is the vocal cycle In a Persian Garden, which includes the tenor song “Ah, Moon of My Delight." She also composed numerous children's songs and vocal quartets for multiple voices and piano. Lehmann passed away on September 19, 1918, at Pinner, Middlesex, aged 56.
