Biography

Li-Wei Qin, born on February 16, 1976, in Shanghai, is a Chinese-Australian cellist. He began his musical journey with his father, Qin Qing, and later studied under Nelson Cooke. In 1993, he was named the ABC Young Performer of the Year. His international breakthrough came when he won the Silver Medal at the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1998 and First Prize at the 2001 International Naumburg Competition. Qin has collaborated with numerous top orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Qin is currently a professor at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and a guest professor at both the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
