Biography

Symphonic metal band Liv Moon was formed in Japan in October 2009. Inspired by hearing Finnish band Nightwish’s 2002 cover version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” Japanese keyboardist, songwriter, and producer Tatsuya Nishiwaki decided to form his own symphonic rock project. After meeting half-Swedish / half-Japanese singer Arkane Kanzuki – formerly of opera troupe The Takarazuka Revue Company – he knew he had found the singer for his new group. Arkane, who possessed a four-octave range, soon changer her stage name to Arkane Liv. The duo brought in several other musicians to help them create their debut album Double Moon, which was released in 2009. The following year, they released the album Covers – Scream As a Woman, which featured their symphonic rock covers of songs originally recorded by Kate Bush, Deep Purple, Blondie, Madonna, and others. The group became a popular live act and released the albums Golden Moon (2011), Symphonic Moon (2012), and The End of the Beginning (2012). After a three year break, the group released the compilation The Best of Liv Moon (2015) and followed that with the mini-album R.E.D. in 2016. Another six years would pass before the duo returned with the long-awaited 2022 release Our Stories.
