Biography

Lilya Yefímovna Zilberstein is a Russian pianist born on April 19, 1965, in Moscow. She studied under Ada Traub at the Gnessin State Musical College and Aleksandr Sats at the Gnessin Institute, where she graduated in 1988. In 1985, she received the First Prize at the Competition of the Russian Federation. Zilberstein won the Busoni Competition in Bozen in 1987. Following her graduation, she performed a tour of Italy and debuted at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. She signed with the label Deutsche Grammophon and relocated to Hamburg in 1990. Zilberstein performed with the Berlin Philharmonic under Claudio Abbado in 1991 and collaborated with orchestras including the Chicago Symphony and the London Symphony. Her discography included recordings of Rachmaninov: Preludes, op. 32 and Brahms: Variations on a Theme by Paganini, op. 35. She performed frequently in duos with Martha Argerich and Maksim Vengérov. Zilberstein began teaching at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in 2011.
