Biography
Lighthouse was formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1969 by vocalistâdrummer Skipâ¯Prokop and keyboardist Paulâ¯Hoffert, who had met on a flight from Newâ¯York to Toronto. The bandâs debut single, "If There Ever Was a Time", appeared in 1969 and was followed by the album Lighthouse released the same year under RCA Victor. In 1969 through 1971 Lighthouse issued Suite Feeling, Peacing It All Together, One Fine Morning, Thoughts of Movin' On, and One Fine Light, the latter a compilation that helped the group secure a Gold certification. The 1971 single "One Fine Morning" reached Number Two on the Canadian Singles Chart, peaked at Number TwentyâFour on the U.S. Billboard Hotâ¯100, and earned a Gold disc, while "Take It Slow (Out in the Country)" from Thoughts of Movin' On hit Number Twelve in Canada. In 1972 the live recording Lighthouse Live! achieved Platinum status in Canada, and the studio album Sunny Days produced the Top Five Canadian hit "Sunny Days". The band signed with Polydor in 1974 for Can You Feel It and Good Day, both Gold in Canada, before disbanding in 1976. After a brief reunion in 1982 and a 1992 reformation, Lighthouse released Song of the Ages in 1996 and continued touring despite Skipâ¯Prokopâs death in 2017.
