Leone Magiera (born June 26, 1934) is an Italian classical pianist and conductor from Modena. Magiera performed a first concert at age 12 and graduated from the Arrigo Boito Conservatory in 1952. In 1959, the pianist began teaching at the Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory. Magiera instructed students including Peter Glossop, Ruggero Raimondi, and Luciano Pavarotti. Magiera and his first wife, soprano Mirella Freni, collaborated on multiple operatic productions. As a childhood friend of Pavarotti, the pianist served as his longtime accompanist and conductor in over 1,000 performances.Magiera performed at venues including the Salzburg Festival and the Metropolitan Opera. The pianist collaborated with conductors including Otto Klemperer and Herbert von Karajan. In 2006, Magiera conducted the orchestra for the performance of the recording "Nessun dorma" from the opera Turandot at the Torino Winter Olympic Games. The pianist recorded hundreds of CDs and DVDs for labels including EMI and Decca. Magiera authored books regarding singing and memoirs.
