One of the most influential singer-songwriters in Mexican pop, Julieta Venegas Percevault was born on November 24, 1970, in Long Beach, California. She was raised in Tijuana, Mexico, and began studying music as a child. In her teens, she played in several bands in Tijuana and Mexico City before recording her solo debut with producer Gustavo Santaolalla. Released in 1997, Aquà blended Latin American rhythms with indie rock and alternative pop, establishing the personal songwriting style that would shape her career. She soon began collaborating with artists including Enanitos Verdes, Enrique Bunbury, and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, then expanded her audience with Bueninvento (2000) and Sà (2003). In 2004, Julieta Venegas won three MTV Video Music Awards Latino: Artist of the Year, Solo Artist of the Year, and Best Artist â North. Her 2006 album Limón y Sal became one of her biggest commercial successes, driven by âEres Para MÃ,â and won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album in 2007. She followed with MTV Unplugged (2008), the first edition of the series recorded in Mexico, then released Otra Cosa (2010), Los Momentos (2013), Algo Sucede (2015), and the stage-inspired La Enamorada (2019). Produced by Chilean singer-songwriter Alex Anwandter and written during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tu Historia arrived in 2022 and won Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards. Julieta Venegas supported the album with the Tu Historia Tour and continued with âDame una Oportunidadâ (2023) and âA Dónde Va el Vientoâ (2024), written for the Prime Video series Nadie nos va a extrañar. In 2025, she joined Bad Bunny onstage in Mexico City, performing âLo Siento BB:/,â âOjitos Lindos,â and âLento.â In 2026, Julieta Venegas received the Artistic Excellence Award at Billboard Latin Women in Music and released Norteña, a regional Mexican-rooted album produced with Ruzzi and featuring Natalia Lafourcade, Bronco, El David Aguilar, Yahritza y Su Esencia, Ruzzi, and Meme del Real.
