Laila Darboe, known professionally as Layla, is a German rapper. She grew up in Münster with Deutsch-Gambian roots. She began writing her own songs at age nine, influenced by her father's reggae DJ performances and her mother singing in a gospel choir. In 2019, she started sharing short song clips on Instagram, featuring R&B vocals. Her debut single "Choppa" was released in January 2020, produced by AgaJon, and garnered 100,000 streams within two weeks. Her subsequent releases included "Hustla", and the Bedroom-R&B track "24/7". Her debut EP Traboe was released in 2021 and featured collaborations with the production duo Rascal. She performed at festivals such as Melt and Splash.
