Biography

Laurence Equilbey, born in Paris in 1962, grew up in Germany, playing the piano and flute before taking courses in choral and orchestral conducting. Her encounters with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Eric Ericson confirmed her choices and led to the formation of her own highly successful ensemble, Accentus, in 1991. Her knowledge of choral works and her taste for both Baroque and contemporary music led her to conduct the Jeune Choeur de Paris (1995), the Choeur de l'Opéra de Rouen (1998) and the Choeur de l'Orchestre de Paris (2002 to 2009). Winner of three Victoires de la musique classique awards (2002, 2005, 2008), Laurence Equilbey has won international acclaim for her interpretations of sacred works such as Mozart's Requiem . In 2012, she founded the Insula Orchestra and was awarded the Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres.
