Biography

Kwabena Boa-Amponsem, known professionally as Koo Nimo, is a Ghanaian singer and guitarist born on January 27, 1931, in Foase, Atwima District of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. Nimo specializes in Palm wine music and Highlife music. In 1957, following Ghana's independence, Nimo gained national recognition with the formation of the Addadam Agofomma ensemble. Early work included traditional stories sung in the Twi language. In 1990, eight songs were released on the compact disk Osabarima (1990), marking the first CD release by a Ghanaian artist. Nimo relocated back to Ghana in 2006, settling in Kumasi. Notable achievements include receiving the Asanteman award in 1991 and winning a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Other notable releases include the albums Ashanti Ballads (1968), Tete Wobi Ka (2000), and Highlife Roots Revival (2012).
