Biography

Kom Zot, a reggae band from the Chaudron district of Saint-Denis, was formed in 1991, at a time when riots were raging across the island and being relayed to mainland France. Led by singer-guitarist Luciano Mabrouk, the musicians of Kom Zot (which literally means "The Others") wanted to improve the image of their stigmatized neighborhood. Their first album, Rebel Kabaré , was released in 1994, followed by Pelerinaz in 1996 and Sweet in 2000. Claiming to be a local reggae band, Kom Zot sings mainly in Reunionese Creole and manages to become a fixture on the island, where he opens for such reggae greats as Lee Perry, I Jah Man, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Culture, Israel Vibrasyon, Lucky Dubbe and The Gladiators. In the years that followed, the group founded its own label, MaronRprod, and went on to release compilations and original albums, including Kom Zot Family-974 Reggae in 2005, Fé In Zes in 2007, Kaz Maron in 2012 and Livication in 2018.
