Knut Riisnæs, born on November 13, 1945, in Oslo, Norway, was a saxophonist and flutist known for his contributions to contemporary jazz. He began his career as part of the local jazz scene in Oslo, contributing to bebop-inspired records by notable Norwegian musicians. Riisnæs made his solo debut with Flukt (1982), which was critically acclaimed. His subsequent albums included Confessin' (1991) and Featuring John Scofield and Palle Danielsson (1992). Throughout his career, he collaborated with prominent jazz musicians such as Karin Krog, Terje Rypdal, and Radka Toneff. Riisnæs received several awards, including the Spellemannprisen in 1982 for Flukt, and again in 1992 for Featuring John Scofield and Palle Danielsson. He continued to perform and record until his death on July 22, 2023.
