Kiran Ahluwalia, born à¨à¨¿à¨°à¨¨ à¨à¨¹à¨²à©à¨µà¨¾à¨²à©à¨ in Patna, India on July 1, 1965, is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for infusing Indian music with African desert blues and Western styles. She grew up in Delhi and moved to Toronto at the age of nine. She completed an MBA at Dalhousie University before returning to India to study music. Ahluwalia's breakthrough came with her album Wanderlust, released in 2007. In 2009, she won the 'Newcomer' category in the inaugural Songlines Music Awards and was featured on Deleriumâs "Indoctrination." She also received the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best World Solo Artist in 2011. Ahluwalia is married to guitarist Rez Abbasi, with whom she has collaborated extensively, and currently lives in New York. In 2016, she was recognized as one of the recipients of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards.
