Kimié Kauikeolani Miner, known professionally as Kimié Miner, was born on July 3, 1985, in Kailua, Hawaii. She is a singer-songwriter and musician of Native Hawaiian and Portuguese descent who began writing songs and playing guitar at age 14. In 2004, while attending the University of San Diego, she sang for reggae legend Barrington Levy, leading to her first tour as an opening act. Miner released her debut studio album Distant Traveler in 2009. Her EP To the Sea, independently funded through Kickstarter and released in 2013, featured the radio hit "Make Me Say" with Imua Garza. In November 2019, she earned a Grammy Award nomination for producing the compilation album Hawaiian Lullaby. Miner has won multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, including Contemporary Album of the Year in 2016 and Female Vocalist of the Year in 2018.
