Biography

Kenneth Lee Spencer, also known as Kenneth Spencer, born on April 25, 1913, in Los Angeles, was an American opera singer and actor. He completed vocal training at the Eastman School of Music and gained recognition in 1946, playing Joe and singing "Ol’ Man River" in Kern and Hammerstein's Show Boat. Spencer's repertoire spanned spirituals, operatic arias, art songs, and folk music. He performed in musicals and films like Cabin in the Sky (1943) and A Walk in the Sun (1945). In 1949, he gained European recognition at the International Music Festival in Nice. Spencer settled in Wuppertal, Germany, in 1954, acquiring German citizenship in 1956. He died on February 25, 1964, when Eastern Air Lines Flight 304 crashed into Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans.
