Biography

A provocative dandy of French song and rock, Philippe Katerine (born Blanchard on December 8, 1968) tiptoed through the minimalist style of his albums Les Mariages Chinois (1992) and L'Éducation Anglaise (1993) to arrive, almost by accident, at the mainstream success of Robots Après Tout (2005), with its hits "100% V.I.P" and "Louxor j'adore". The author of the subversive "Je vous emmerde " plays with contrasts, extravagance and audacity. His singular universe adapts to bossa nova, rock, electro and jazz with The Recyclers on 8ème Ciel (2002). The spiritual son of Boby Lapointe and Brigitte Fontaine, he continues in a delirious vein on the albums Philippe Katerine (2010) and Magnum (2014) and returns to a piano-vocal format on Le Film (2016). As a composer and arranger, Philippe Katerine has appeared in some twenty films, some of which he has scored, such as Un homme, un vrai (2003) and Nom de code : Sacha. After winning the César for Best Supporting Actor for Le Grand bain (2019), he unveiled the album Confessions, featuring a dozen collaborations including Lomepal, Angèle, Alain Souchon, Gérard and Julie Depardieu, Léa Seydoux, Oxmo Puccino, Barbara Carlotti, Jeanne Balibar and Chilly Gonzales. In July 2024, Katerine creates controversy at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, where he appears naked and covered in blue paint to perform the song "Nu". The album Zouzou is released in October of the same year and contains 17 tracks, including the single "Nu " Nu".
