Biography

Karin Schaupp, born in 1972 in Hofheim am Taunus, Germany, is a classical guitarist. She began her guitar studies at age five with her mother, Isolde Schaupp, and performed publicly at six. Her family migrated to Brisbane, Australia when she was eight. Schaupp won prizes at competitions in Lagonegro, Italy, and Madrid, Spain during her teens. In 1992, she premiered Philip Bračanin's Guitar Concerto with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Her solo debut album, Soliloquy, released in 1997, was critically acclaimed. Schaupp performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2004 and won the Music Council of Australia Freedman Fellowship in 2003. She starred in over 150 performances of David Williamson's one-woman play Lotte's Gift, which she also toured internationally, including at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2009. Schaupp released several albums, including Spain (2009) and Wayfaring (2018), and won multiple awards, such as APRA Awards and ARIA Music Awards.
